A cup of superbly flavourful Sigri coffee is the culmination of a series of stages in its production, beginning with the planting of the coffee seedlings through to the final roasting and packaging of the beans for dispatch to those who appreciate the very finest.

Sigri Plantation, in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, was established in the 1950s and rapidly gained a reputation has continued to grow and Sigri has been internationally recognized as producing a gourmet coffee equal to the world's best for more than 20 years.

At almost 1600 meters above sea level the plantation enjoys a cool climate and bountiful rainfall, the ideal environment for growing Arabica coffee.  All plantings are exclusively Arabica, concentrating on the Typica varieties which produce a finer coffee than other Arabicas in Papua New Guinea.

All growing and processing practices follow a system which has been thoroughly proven over many years, which regard for the highest standards and quality at every stage.

All coffee bearing the Sigri name is a washed Arabica coffee and undergoes a rigorous wet factory process.  Quality control begins in the field; Cherry coffee is hand-picked and carefully checked for uniformity; it must be red and fully ripe which allows the correct balance of sugar and acid within the cherry.  This select cherry is then pulped on the day of picking.

A fermentation process follows, a period of three days broken every 24 hours by washing - but, unlike most other brands, the Sigri process follows this by total immersion in water for a further day, which creates a superior blend.  Sun drying further enhances the coffee and, unlike many others, all Sigri coffee is sun dried.

Careful conditioning, hulling, grading, and hand sorting follows.  This, combined with rigorous quality control and a final hand sort before packing produces the finest green bean for which Sigri is renowned.  All grades are then continuously sample-roasted and liquored, by experts.  This provides a final check on the quality of the green bean product, and is a practice unique in Papua New Guinea.

The bulk of the production is sold to France and Germany, noted as discerning buyers, and to specialist gourmet roasters in the USA.  Over the years considerable quantities of Sigri coffee have been re-exported from Europe to Japan.

Sigri roasted coffee is unblended, as are the finest wines and whiskies; in one packet there is only ever one grade of coffee.  There are two roasted types produced: the first is a roast using an A-grade bean, which is Sigri's premium "flat" bean grade; the second is a "Peaberry", noted for its exceptionally fine and well balanced cap.  Sigri are the only producers of viable commercial quantities of this type of coffee.

Years of experience, time-proven methods of growing and processing, and the most stringent attention to maintaining standards and quality control have resulted in the production of one of the finest, washed Arabica roasted coffees on the world market today.
